Through our joint project Full Circle Spirituality, my longtime colleague and partner in crime Francesca Morfesis and I are offering a bi-monthly sangha for those who would like to explore integrated, embodied, and de-colonized spiritual practice with us. We also offer consultations to spiritual centers, groups, and spiritual teachers on the topics of trauma-sensitive spirituality and meditation practice as well as what often gets left out of spirituality in the Western world and how that inhibits spiritual maturation. Francesca and I have walked the healing path alongside one another since we met in college, and her wisdom complements and extends my own.
We have both seen how dharma and spiritual centers and groups are falling short in this cultural moment.
Collectively, we are waking up to trauma, to the importance of the body, to our internalized patriarchy and racism. Patriarchy, white supremacy and the simple onward march of capitalism have left us bereft of our innate wisdom.
Francesca and I see the effect of this has on our spirituality, and how these many internalized and often unconscious lenses have caused what centers and groups offer to be unintentionally and unconsciously biased. It has meant practitioners are sometimes harmed, and often missing out on feminine wisdom, the wisdom of people of color, and indigenous wisdom. It has meant centers are overly biased towards the ultimate or absolute perspective, and neglect or devalue the relative perspective.
Francesca and I were both harmed by these misunderstandings, and, in having to find creative ways out, along with engaging in intensive training, have emerged with a greater understanding of what's truly needed to awaken.
Francesca and I are also developing a training for practitioners on these topics, and more information will be posted when we are ready to launch our course.
Additionally, we have recorded many of our talks and guided practices, which can be found there on our website.
I have said much on these topics on other pages on my site, so I will not elaborate more here. Please see these other pages on my site for more information and please check out Full Circle Spirituality as well:
Awakening with Trauma
Recovering Oppressed Wisdom
Meditation-Related Difficulties
Fees are listed on my Fees and Insurance page. Our project is run out of the organization Pastoral Care and Counseling Institute.
